Dry No More
Winter days are filled with snacking on peanuts and oranges as we bask in the warm November sun. Winter days are also filled with taunt and dry skin that has you frequenting the beauty counter of your local department store. With the party season at its peak, dry dull skin could cause havoc to your perfectly styled look. But the chill in the wind shouldn’t spell disaster for you as Dr Super KC of Health and Beauty Complex, Baluwatar shares with you ways to keep away the skin woes this season.
“The moisture in the environment during this time of the year dips,” says determatologist Dr KC who is also a consultant at Kathmandu Model College. The outer layer of the skin starts to lose moisture as well because of which the skin feels taunt and dry. For all those who cursed their oily skin during summers should be glad, for this kind of skin texture is best suited for the weather.
“The ways to keep away dry skin is to make your skin care regime as simple as possible and not over do anything,” says the doctor. This includes washing your face several times. The best thing to do is to use a good sunscreen with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 15 to 30 and not use every product that anyone recommends. Since the ultra violet raise are stronger during winter one should always apply sunscreen while stepping out in the sun and remember to reapply every four hours. “The sun block becomes ineffective after four hours and one should consult a dermatologist before using sun block above SPF 30,” reveals Dr KC.
You can’t get cosmetic companies to create products to exactly suit your skin type but if you look out for a few key ingredients in off the rack products you will be able to keep away flaky and itchy skin. “Look out for ingredients such as Occlusive, Humactant and Propylene glycol for those who have oily skin during winters. And for those who have dry skin keep an eye on names such as Vaseline and Aloe Vera,” advises the doctor. “Urea and Aloe Vera are ingredients that work very well on any skin types,” he adds.
But the best answer to all your problems is the liquid of life- water. According to Dr KC a minimum of three glasses of water is a must for dewy fresh skin. Also keep away soap from the skin; the harsh chemicals in soaps have negative effect on the skin of any type especially facial. A mixture of glycerin and lemon too shouldn’t be worshipped unlike olden days as it only darkens the skin. So there you have it, a basic know-how and a little care can make those winter days as happy and moist as its predeceasing months. Are we still scared of winter?
